A beautiful back can be a delight — but stubborn excess skin and fat often stand in the way of confidence in figure-hugging clothing or swimwear. Folds form particularly around the bra line or on the flanks, which disappear neither through targeted back training nor through massage.
This slackening usually occurs after substantial weight loss, through the natural ageing process or with a pronounced weakness of the connective tissue. A professional back lift is the only way to remove this excess skin permanently and achieve a smooth, firm back contour.
The different techniques of the back lift
Depending on where the excess skin is, different surgical approaches are used. Dr Ali Saalabian chooses the technique that conceals the scars most skilfully.

Bra-line back lift
Upper back — the most frequently chosen method, particularly among women. The horizontal incision is placed exactly where the bra fastening or the bikini top will later sit. The excess skin on the middle and upper back is removed, and the scar is covered by underwear. The typical “rolls” above the bra strap disappear for good.

Flank lift
Lower back / lumbar area — this targets excess skin above the buttocks and on the sides. The incision runs lower, often as a continuation of an abdominoplasty in the course of a body lift. The waist is emphasised and the transition to the buttocks becomes clearly more defined and lifted.

Because the back often has fat deposits too (love handles or padding at the shoulder blades), combining it with liposuction is standard with us. First the back is treated with VASER or vibration liposuction, then the skin can be tightened more precisely — for a V-shaped back in men or an hourglass silhouette in women.

The no-obligation consultation appointment lasts 30 – 60 minutes and costs €90. We get to know each other, listen to you and answer all your questions. We examine your problem areas, tell you what is genuinely possible and explain the advantages as well as the disadvantages of body contouring. You see before-and-after photos and learn how your procedure can work in detail.

Operation
On the day of surgery you are carefully prepared and meet your whole treatment team. Then follow photo documentation of the treatment region, the conversation and marking with your surgeon, and the preparation in your own room. The procedure takes place in our state-of-the-art operating theatres under general anaesthetic. We use tissue-sparing techniques and multi-layered sutures, to minimise the tension on the scar.

Recovery
After the procedure the healing phase begins — our team accompanies you step by step. Mild pain, swelling and bruising are normal, and you wear compression garments for several weeks. Light everyday activities are possible after a few days, and you can leave the centre on the day of the operation. At the check-up after a week we assess the course of healing and the result. Every body heals in its own way.

Frequently asked questions about the back lift
Does the scar on the back stay visible?
The scar is placed so that it disappears under underwear. With good care it fades to a pale line.
Is the operation painful?
Most patients report a feeling of tightness, similar to a muscle ache. We ensure freedom from pain with medication.
When can I do sport again?
Gentle walking is possible straight away. Sports that involve the arms heavily (swimming, golf, weight training) should be paused for 6 to 8 weeks.
Can I combine the back lift with breast surgery?
Yes, that is often done, in order to harmonise the whole upper-body silhouette in one step.
Is liposuction alone not enough?
If the skin already hangs (empty folds of skin), liposuction alone would make the appearance worse. A lift is then necessary.
When will I be able to work again?
With office jobs usually after 10 to 14 days.
Are there risks such as impaired wound healing?
There is a lot of movement at the back. We minimise risks through special suturing techniques and strict rules of conduct after the operation.
When can I go to the sauna again?
After about 6 to 8 weeks, once the wounds have completely closed.
Is the result permanent?
Yes, the tissue that has been removed does not grow back. A stable weight is important for the long-term result, however.
Can the scar be lasered?
Yes, we offer modern laser therapies at the centre to make scars almost invisible.
Is financing possible?
